COLIFAST GROWTH MEDIUM

Colifast provides three growth media solutions, each tailored to target specific bacteria types.

Our three different growth medium solutions

Colifast 6

Detection: Coliforms

E.coli Standard

Detection: E.coli

E.coli Mod

Detection: E.coli

The Colifast 6 growth medium is formulated to detect total coliforms, but are highly selective towards coliforms bacteria found in the intestinal flora of warm-blooded animals. Colifast 6 is ideal for general analysis, offering an overview of the microbiological quality of water.

The E.coli standard growth medium is formulated to specifically detect E.coli found in the bacterial gut of warm-blooded animals by using a quantitative analysis method. This allows for a direct indicator of fecal contamination in water monitoring.

The E.coli mod growth medium is formulated to specifically detect E.coli found in the bacterial gut of warm-blooded animals by using a Presence/Absence method. This allows for a direct indicator of fecal contamination in water monitoring.

Using an E.coli specific growth medium can provide more accurate results in water monitoring

Direct Indicator of Fecal Contamination: E. coli is a bacteria directly linked to fecal contamination from warm-blooded animals. While total coliforms can also be found naturally in the environment, such as in soil and plants, their presence does not necessarily indicate fecal contamination. Detecting E. coli provides a more accurate indication of contamination from fecal sources, which is crucial for assessing health risks.

Reduced Risk of False Alarms: Since total coliforms can come from many sources (not necessarily fecal), they can lead to false alarms. A medium that detects E. coli reduces the risk of these false positives because E. coli is a clearer indicator of harmful contamination.

Efficient Water Quality Assessment: In drinking water monitoring, it’s essential to evaluate water quality quickly and reliably. Because E. coli gives a more specific and direct assessment of fecal contamination, it allows for more effective monitoring and risk assessment.

Better Compliance with Regulations and Standards: Many health authorities and international drinking water standards require E. coli testing due to its role as an indicator of fecal contamination. Using a medium that detects E. coli makes it easier to meet these requirements and stay compliant with regulations.
